Dr. Yihyun Kwon

Dr. Kwon is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Chiropractor. He has been in health profession over 25 years as a researcher, educator, and patient care practitioner. While he worked in a research lab at the Calgary University, Calgary in Canada, Dr. Kwon’s chiropractic treatment experience motivated him to be a natural medicine practitioner, especially a chiropractor. While he had studied chiropractic medicine, he finally decided to study acupuncture and Oriental herbal medicine and thereby perpetuate the legacy from his father. "I hadn’t thought about being an Oriental medicine practitioner, but I realized that the combined study and practice of chiropractic and Oriental medicine are the perfect completion of a puzzle. When this became clear to me, I finally realized my father had been practicing Oriental medicine over 53 years in my home town" he explained. Since this discovery and realization, his biggest interest has become how to integrate Oriental and Western medicine together to give a maximum benefit to his patients.
In 1998, he moved to Chicago and simultaneously studied for and received both a doctor of chiropractic degree from National University of Health Sciences as well as a master's degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. Afterwards, he worked for three years as a family practice resident at National University of Health Sciences. Determined to learn more, Dr. Kwon completed his PhD in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Tianjin, China. Then he had contributed to developing an acupuncture and Oriental medicine program as a chief officer of the Acupuncture and Oriental medicine program at National University of Health Sciences. He says, "Personally, I'm very interested in integrating western and eastern medicine.” He is a strong believer the western and eastern medicine should be combined to give a maximum benefit to the patient. Each medicine has a strength and weakness. Therefore, combining two different medicines synergistically affects patient care and gives maximum benefit to the patient. He has taken care of various patient conditions including but not limited to the following: Musculo-skeletal conditions; muscle pain, swelling, stiffness, and weakness, tendinitis, arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, low back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica. Neurological conditions; headache, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, bell’s palsy, post-stroke, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, disc problems. Gynecological conditions; infertility, PMS, dysmenorrhea menopause syndrome, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea. Respiratory system conditions; sinusitis, and acute rhinitis, common cold, allergies, acute, acute tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, asthma. Gastrointestinal conditions; irritable bowel and colitis, acidic reflux, constipation, chronic diarrhea. Psychological conditions; depression, anxiety, insomnia. Dr. Kwon has also contributed to his profession. He also published many articles and contributed writing to several books. he gave numerous presentations in the UIC medical school, pharmacy, and dental school, at Rush Medical schools, National University of Health Sciences, and at numerous post graduate seminar internationally. Also, he gave a presentation about the doctoral program to the CCAOM conference. He also has contributed to Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Profession as a consultant to many acupuncture and Oriental medicine schools cross the country. |
